Star Trekkin - Where No Man Has Gone Before

Star Trek's second pilot, where an encounter at the edge of the galaxy causes changes in two crew members.

After The Cage was passed over, the opportunity to make a second pilot was offered to the Trek crew. And after some changes to the cast, the second pilot was better received and pick up for a series. And a lot of that has to do with the change of captains from Pike to Kirk. Shatner's Kirk is a more engaging lead than Pike, and he's the biggest reason as to why this pilot is better than the Cage.

The story is typical Trek, with the crew dealing with the edge of the universe and the fallout of what happened to the crew afterwards. It's also a case of a character getting godlike powers, which is a running theme for the show. But overall it's a good episode, and it's a far from what other shows like Lost in Space were doing at the time. (Don't get me wrong, I do like LiS. But it's more of a kiddie show than Trek).

One thing that I thought was odd, was that when they remastered the episode, they fixed effects and stuff, but they left the continuity mistake with Kirk's tombstone that reads "James R. Kirk". It seems like that would of been an easy fix. But I am impressed with the new effects and how the show looks on blu-ray. It's a great looking show and one that benefits from HD video (kind of like Batman '66).

But WNMHGB is classic Trek, and it's one that I would call one of the good ones.
